GOP, Dems continue to pay lip service to protecting American jobs
If Republican and Democratic voters still aren't sure that their parties are engaged in an all-out war against American workers, they should pay closer attention to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Rep.Mark Pocan (D-WI).
In a Sept. 29 interview with The Daily Caller Boehner, when asked howamnesty and increased legal immigration would affect the incomes and job prospects of Americans, said he was "staying out of the immigration debate."
“My job … is to move the [legislative] process along,” he said.
Did you get that? This man, who leads the Republican controlled legislative body that supposedly represents the interests of ordinary citizens, says he can't be bothered with how the amnesty he supports will affect the American people, but he will continue to work to get it done.
On the other side of the aisle, the "progressive" Pocan said in a boring boilerplate op-ed published in The Capital Times that he wants our help to keep him in Congress so that he can continue to "fight for fair wages and equality for all Americans."
His goals will never be realized thanks to his indefensible voting recordon immigration. He, too, supports amnesty and work permits for 12 million illegal aliens and the doubling of annual legal immigration to 2 million people.
High immigration levels during the past 30 years have continually depressed wages for the most vulnerable members of our society, so the question becomes how would adding millions of foreign workers to an already bloated labor pool at a time when the job market remains dismal benefit the nation?
The unemployment and poverty rates are the worst among Black- and Hispanic-Americans, but politicians like Pocan and Boehner refuse to explain how even more immigration would help these citizens.
So here's what this boils down to in terms of the federal government protecting American workers: A vote for Democratic candidates is a vote for Republicans and vice versa.
