Washington, D.C. (November 7, 2022) - Based on data released just ten days ago by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the total foreign-born (legal and illegal) population likely stood at 48.4 million in October of this year, by far the largest number in U.S. history.  This means the foreign-born population has increased by 3.4 million since January 2021, the month President Biden took office. (The foreign born include all persons who were not U.S. citizens at birth — naturalized citizens, green-card holders, long-term temporary visitors, and illegal immigrants). Based on our prior research, we estimate that about 2 million of this increase is from illegal immigration.

The illegal immigrant population is almost certainly increasing faster now than at any time in U.S. history. This data is important because unlike border apprehension numbers, it measures the likely number of illegal immigrants actually living in the country, which is what will ultimately determine their impact on American society.

“The new figures released Friday from BLS indicate that the illegal immigrant population has exploded under Biden,” said Steven Camarota, the Center’s Director of Research.  He added, “The administration’s policies have consequences and we are clearly seeing them in the data.”

How We Know:

  • The employment situation report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) last Friday shows 45.9 million immigrants 16 and older (legal and illegal) living in the country in October.
  • Based on data from prior months, when all of the October data is released, it will show at least 2.5 million immigrants under the age of 16, for a total foreign population of 48.4 million — an increase of half a million since last month.
  • Month-to-month changes in the data are not necessarily meaningful because of sampling variability, but since January 2021, when President Biden took office, the total foreign born has grown by about 3.4 million, a very large and statistically significant increase.
  • Both the Census Bureau, which collects the data, and the BLS which analyzes it, are clear that illegal immigrants are included in the households survey, officially known as the Current Population Survey (CPS).
  • Based on our prior analysis we estimate that about 60 percent or about 2 million of the increase in the foreign born is from illegal immigration since January 2021.
  • Looking at all foreign born workers (legal and illegal), the number is up 2.1 million October of 2019, before Covid, to October of 2022. There is no indication that there are “missing” immigrant workers as some have suggested.
  • While a large share of the recent increase in the total foreign-born population is due to illegal immigration, those in the country legally still account for three-fourths of all foreign-born residents.

Facebook, the tech giant famous for censoring posts that promote political views opposite to its perspective, recently admitted that its users are aiding and abetting illegal immigration.

Responding to a letter sent by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, Facebook acknowledged it allows online users to share information that advises how to immigrate illegally and, alternatively, how to hire human traffickers to smuggle aliens into the U.S., and then apply for asylum. Shocked by Facebook’s candid confession to helping aliens to criminally beat the system, Brnovich wrote a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding that the Justice Department open a full investigation into Facebook to find a way to “stop its active encouragement and facilitation of illegal entry.”

Brnovich’s indignant letter continued: “Facebook’s policy of allowing posts promoting human smuggling and illegal entry into the U.S. to regularly reach its billions of users seriously undermines the rule of law. The company is a direct facilitator, and thus exacerbates, the catastrophe occurring at Arizona’s southern border.”

The odds that Garland will investigate Facebook are zero. Because Facebook has shown a blatant willingness to barefacedly break immigration laws, CEO Mark Zuckerberg, et al consider themselves above the law, and know that the feds won’t lift a finger to interfere with their agenda, no matter how brazen.

For example, in mid-October, DOJ caught the social media titan reserving jobs for and then hiring foreign-born H-1B visa workers. In December 2020, the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER) in DOJ’s Civil Rights Division filed a complaint against Facebook with the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer. DOJ alleged that Facebook refused to recruit – and therefore could not hire – skilled U.S. tech workers. The investigation began in 2017 when then-President Donald Trump’s “Buy American and Hire American” Executive Order, mandating that American worker protections be prioritized, was in effect.

EXCLUSIVE: Fox News confirmed Sunday that Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) have begun to process and release illegal border crossers who claim asylum without issuing a Notice to Appear (NTA) - allowing them to depart custody without scheduling a court date for a hearing.

The unprecedented move places the responsibility of seeking an asylum hearing on the migrants through Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or legal assistance.

BORDER PATROL RELEASING ILLEGAL CROSSERS INTO US WITHOUT COURT DATE

Multiple Border Patrol agents confirmed the new process to Fox News, revealing that they have been directed to use prosecutorial discretion (PD) to forgo the hours-long process of paperwork required to issue an NTA amid the surge of migrants at the border.

Instead, migrants are registered into the system with biometrical data taken and largely released into the public - in one instance - at a bus station in McAllen, TX. The processing is being done mostly at a temporary outdoor processing site. Border Patrol agents emphasized that this does not apply to unaccompanied children.

BIDEN ADMIN ALLOWED MAJORITY OF MIGRANT FAMILIES WHO SURRENDERED AT BORDER INTO US

A senior source with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told Fox News on Saturday that officials were considering the controversial move because the ongoing crisis on the border has "become so dire that BP [Border Patrol] has no choice but to release people nearly immediately after apprehension because there is no space to hold people even to do necessary NTA paperwork."

The process of issuing each migrant an NTA can take hours per individual or family.

The decision comes as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is working to open another facility for unaccompanied child migrants in Pecos, Texas, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) announced Saturday.

The Temporary Influx Care Facility would house at least 500 unaccompanied minors to start, with the capacity to house 2,000 children.

"While ORR has worked to build up its licensed bed capacity to almost 13,500 beds, additional capacity is urgently needed to manage both enhanced COVID-19 mitigation strategies and the increasing numbers of UC referrals from DHS," an ORR spokesperson said.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief Alejandro Mayorkas said last week that border crossings were on track to be the highest in 20 years.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo pardoned 18 illegal aliens who will now be able to remain in the United States and circumvent or defer deportation.

According to the New York Times, Cuomo pardoned the 18 illegal aliens to “free them from the threat of deportation or other immigration-related issues” with the governor even praising his decision in a Twitter post.

“While the federal government continues to target immigrants and threatens to tear families apart with deportation, these actions take a critical step toward a more just, more fair and more compassionate New York,” Cuomo said in the post, ignoring the impact illegal immigration has on America’s working and middle class.

TOPEKA: A bill that would repeal in-state tuition for the children of undocumented immigrants cleared a major legislative hurdle Monday. The Kansas House voted 69-49 to approve the bill, which would repeal a law the Legislature passed in 2004.  "We had an election in November, and we have a group of folks who see things differently," said Rep. Lance Kinzer, an Olathe Republican and one of the bill's sponsors.

Madison — People suspected of crimes in Wisconsin would have to prove they were legally in the United States or be turned over to federal immigration authorities under a bill that will be introduced next year in the newly Republican state Legislature.

"I want Wisconsin to be recognized as a state that will be on the side of Arizona," said bill author Rep. Don Pridemore (R-Hartford).
