The father of a man killed by an illegal immigrant in a car crash has challenged President Obama to visit his son's grave before declaring any executive action halting deportations.

In a letter that Don Rosenberg sent last month to Mr. Obama through top officials at the Homeland Security Department, the grieving father said his son Drew might be alive had the federal government deported illegal immigrants who had run-ins with the law.

"My son and all of the others are considered collateral damage in the quest for votes and campaign contributions," he wrote. "Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime."

Mr. Rosenberg's son was killed while riding his motorcycle in 2010 when Roberto Galo, an illegal immigrant, made an illegal turn and crashed into him. Mr. Rosenberg said the man, who was driving without a license, ran over his son three times as he tried to flee the scene.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Officials in a small Nebraska city were preparing Wednesday to enforce voter-approved illegal immigration rules, despite the threat of costly federal lawsuits after the measure goes into effect.

Fremont officials said that police will start enforcing the measure 30 days after the results of a special city election are certified. Nearly 60 percent of voters decided Tuesday to keep the ordinance, which requires renters to get a $5 permit and swear they have legal permission to live in the U.S.

During little-noticed testimony last Thursday before the House Ways and Means Committee on the implementation of Obamacare, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Insurance Oversight Director Gary Cohen told lawmakers that anyone “lawfully present” inside the United States would qualify for Obamacare subsidies even if they are not citizens.

“It was my understanding it was just going to be those that are citizens of the United States or here as permanent legal residents,” Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-PA) asked Cohen at the hearing, an exchange first picked up by PJ Media’s Nick Ballasy. “Are there folks beyond that that are eligible for tax credit – taxpayer subsidies under this program?”
“You have to be a citizen or lawfully present,” Cohen replied to Gerlach.
Gerlach followed up to ask Cohen what “lawfully present” means. “Well, you could be here on a student visa and be eligible,” he said.
Gerlach followed up again with another hypothetical scenario: “Somebody comes here to the United States on a travel visa, has a visa for a certain period of time, a number of months, and perhaps wants to stay longer, will that person be able to apply for tax subsidized insurance coverage while here?”
“If they overstay the visa, then no,” Cohen answered.
“But they can apply while they’re here legally, lawfully?” Gerlach clarified.
“I believe so, yes,” Cohen replied.
The Senate’s “Gang of Eight” bill confers “lawfully present” status to all illegal aliens inside the United States, but for the purposes of Obamacare, considers those who would gain such status, referred to as “Registered Provisional Immigrant” or RPI status, as “not lawfully present.” It is thus far unclear if the Obama administration could provide them with subsidies via its own interpretation of the various laws via their implementation.

American workers get short end of Marco Rubio's immigration schtick

When Sen. Marco Rubio, the official poster boy for the Gang of Eight's amnesty bill, told ABC News viewers on April 14 that the legislation "gives nothing away," he was either lying or completely ignorant of the nation's unemployment crisis and how it would be worsened by giving work permits to 11 million illegal aliens.  WASHINGTON — After weeks of denials, the Obama administration acknowledged Thursday that it had, in fact, released more than 2,000 illegal immigrants from immigration jails due to budget concerns during three weeks in February. Four of the most serious offenders have been put back in detention.

The administration had insisted that only a “few hundred” immigrants were released for budgetary reasons, challenging as inaccurate a March 1 report by The Associated Press that the agency had released more than 2,000 immigrants in February and planned to release more than 3,000 others this month. Intense criticism led to a temporary shutdown of the plan.

The director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, John Morton, told a congressional panel Thursday that the agency had actually released 2,228 people from immigration jails over the course of three weeks, starting February 9, for what he described as “solely budgetary reasons.” They included 10 people considered the highest level of offender.
